Are you Planning Your Job Change Carefully? C-Level Executives Makes Mistakes When Changing Roles

This week, I posted an article on my blog, Are you Planning Your Job Change Carefully? C-Level Executives Makes Mistakes When Changing Roles, about the mistakes C-level executives make when looking to leave their company and change jobs. The original HBR article that I cited talks about research that was done with C-level executives in job search. C-level executives make the following mistakes in job search:

1.  They do not do their homework.
2.  They leave for money.
3.  They run from the pain.
4.  They have unrealistic expectations and self-awareness.
5.  They think short term.

When I first read the article, it made me think - how do these mistakes have an impact on an executive’s brand?

Then after further reflection, I realized that if these C-level executives had worked on their Personal Brand, they would not have made the above mistakes in the first place. WHY?

When a client goes through the three-step REACH Personal Branding program, he/she spends a fair of time thinking “longer term” and doing introspective analysis, during which time they will evaluate their career goals, values, and passions.  The client comes out of this phase with a much deeper self-awareness, which should help them greatly when seeking a new role or job.

If you are a C-level executive and are thinking about leaving your firm, step back and start working on your Personal Brand. What you will learn from the process will save you from making silly job search mistakes and from tarnishing your brand by not having career clarity.
