Business Manners and Etiquette for Job Search and Business Relations

Business Manners & Etiquette Landing a job offer against highly competitive odds has gotten much tougher. So has attracting and keeping customers for businesses both large and small. You may mistakenly think it is all about having the best qualifications for the job or the best business product/service. If the world operated by completely objective standards, that might be sufficient.

But there is more to the equation because the world is inhabited by seemingly fickle human beings, who often make hiring and who-to-do-business-with decisions based on subjective input, including social and business manners. Sloppy or non-existent manners are perceived as signposts of future relationship problems that employers, customers, and other businesses want to avoid. Whether conscious or unconscious, the decision to engage or disengage is heavily influenced by  social courtesies and manners.

To learn more about how you can improve your business manners, listen to guest expert Elizabeth Craig of ELC Global LLC as she is interviewed by William Arruda in the Reach Personal Branding Interview Series on Thursday, January 21 at noon EST. She will be discussing:
  • how to make correct choices in workplace etiquette,
  • proper techniques for handshakes, introductions, nametags, and thank you notes,
  • the 6 steps to delegation, and
  • tips for business and professional situations in the workplace and job search.
Author of “Don’t Slurp Your Soup: A Basic Guide to Business Etiquette” (Best Business Book winner - Midwest Book Awards), Elizabeth is a Global Career Development Facilitator and career/lifework consultant. She is a key member of The Purpose Project (along with my friend and fellow lifework coach/author Denny Stockdale who introduced Elizabeth to me). An award-winning Working on Purpose facilitator, Elizabeth has developed courses and programs for universities, corporations, and professional organizations.
